The Michael John Trust is a charity that is fully committed to the advancement of public education and knowledge in the fields of science and technology.

A particular interest of the Trust is public education and to increasing knowledge in the subject of tribology. This is the study of science and engineering of interacting surfaces in relative motion. This includes the study of friction, lubrication, contact mechanics, surface damage processes and surface optimisation.

Tribology is highly multidisciplinary and spans applications ranging from metal forming to replacement hip joints. A particular area of current concern is the reduction of friction in order to increase the efficiency of machines and thereby reduce global energy use.

The Trust is also committed to the advancement of medical education and research as well as the relief of suffering resulting from both physical and mental illness.
