Plessey Semiconductors Ltd has a rich history of innovation and award-winning technology and is challenging the limits of current technology to provide its customers with the next generation of microLED display solutions.

Our microLED technology portfolio offers manufacturers of AR/VR systems, HUD/HMDs, televisions, mobile phones and smartwatches the opportunity to differentiate with “game changing” embedded display components.

Plessey’s proprietary monolithic GaN-on-Silicon technology can create fully active microLED emissive displays that are better performing yet just as, and even more efficient than current display technology such as OLED and LCD.

Our innovative illuminators for display engines (DMD and LCOS) and full-field emissive microLED displays combine very high density RGB pixel arrays with high-performance CMOS backplanes to produce very high brightness, low power and high frame rate image sources.

Plessey operates leading-edge 150mm and 200mm wafer processing facilities, in Plymouth – South West, to undertake design, test and assembly of LED products, and a comprehensive suite of photonic characterization and applications laboratories. Having R&D and production facilities in house, we can process 6” and 8” wafers (with a future capability of 12”) allowing the cost to customers to be dramatically reduced.

We embrace a strong culture of working in a learning environment coupled with the continued development of skills and expertise, allowing our employees to develop as professionals and to transfer their new knowledge into the business, enabling us to produce new technologies and products for the world of commerce.

All our current vacancies are advertised on the Plessey website, which can be found here.

Apprenticeships and Graduate Programmes

Plessey are big advocates of young people entering STEM careers through apprenticeships, offering HNCs, when available, in Electrical/Electronic Engineering leading to careers as either an Equipment or Facilities Engineer. Graduate programs are also available to help strengthen our advanced engineering teams with roles varying year to year.

Women in STEM

Plessey have supported the Women in STEM Plymouth event held at Devonport High School for Girls, which aimed to showcase the range of career opportunities available locally to young women within the engineering and manufacturing sector. Girls aged 11-18 years were encouraged to come along and ask questions about what it is like to work within this exciting and innovative sector.

Charity

Every year, Plessey hosts the Plessey Tour and other charity events for employees, friends, family and members of the engineering and electronics industry to take part to raise money for a democratically voted charity, local or national to help raise awareness and give back to the community.
